Our eShuttle™ platform is compatible with Covestro’s (formerly Bayer MaterialScience) oxygen depolarized cathode (ODC) technology to produce sodium hydroxide that is currently revolutionizing the chlor-alkali industry in regions with high energy costs. Oxygen gas is an additional input to the process and hydrogen gas is eliminated as an output, which reduces the energy of the reaction. This is combined with the lower energy metal chloride reaction with ethylene gas to produce ethylene dichloride. We partnered with Covestro and successfully tested the ODC technology at our pilot plant in 2015. These experiments exemplified the ODC synergies with our eShuttle™ platform.
