Mr. Birkhoff is responsible for developing and executing corporate strategy to commercialize Chemetry technologies. He is a global chemicals industry executive with over 30 years experience in design, development, commercialization and licensing of new process technologies Working with industry partners to leverage synergies, he has achieved successful deployment to the industry in chemical and refining areas. Most recently, Mr. Birkhoff served as CTO and Vice President of R&D and Innovation for the Process Technology division of Technip Energies, where he was responsible for implementing strategies to grow the technology portfolio. Mr. Birkhoff holds a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Twente in The Netherlands.

Dr. Gilliam founded Chemetry, originally as a research division within Calera Corporation, in 2008. Through Chemetry, Dr. Gilliam seeks to redefine how commodity chemicals are made through taking a new look at an old industry. Dr. Gilliam obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in Materials Science and Engineering. On his work in catalysis and electrochemistry, Dr. Gilliam has 10 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his work at multiple international conferences. He is an inventor on 26 U.S. Patents and an additional 60 foreign patents pertaining to Calera’s and Chemetry’s work.

Rajesh is a Partner at Khosla Ventures. Rajesh brings with him two decades of experience assisting and investing in cleantech hardware startups. Before joining Khosla Ventures, Rajesh served as the Head of Applied Ventures LLC, the Venture Capital arm of Applied Materials, where he managed a portfolio of over 85 hardware startups across 13 countries. Before joining Applied Ventures, Rajesh worked at the venture arm of Third Point LLC. Previously, at Lucent’s Bell Labs, he drove the technical assessment & partnerships with several Photonics, MEMS and RF startups.

Rajesh received his MBA from Harvard Business School and M.S. from the University of Maryland at College Park. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras where he was awarded the Shankar Dayal Sharma (President of India) Medal for overall excellence.

Dr. Roach became chief executive officer of Cavalier Energy in November 2011. Prior to that, Dr. Roach served as CEO of Calera in Los Gatos, California. He was the president and CEO of UTS Energy, where he oversaw the successful identification, acquisition and development of a significant portfolio of oil sands leases interspaced with, and ultimately coveted by, a number of the active super majors in the area. UTS was sold to TOTAL E&P Canada for approximately $1.5 billion. Dr. Roach has a successful 25-year track record directing and managing the design, construction, and delivery of large, capital-intensive, national and international upstream oil and gas projects. He has worked internationally for Shell and British-Borneo, and on the east coast of Canada for Husky Energy. Dr. Roach is a professional engineer in Canada and the U.K. and holds a B.Sc. in metallurgy and a Ph.D. in physical metallurgy.
